Infotainment Faces Non-Press Category

VIVAnews - The Indonesian Broadcasting Committee (KPI) declares the policy of categorizing infotainment programs as non-factual or non-press is binding. This is because the policy was written during a meeting with the House of Representatives’ Commission I and the Press Council.

“It’s binding for the attendees,” KPI Head Dadang Rahmat Hidayat at the agency’s office on Jalan Gajah Mada, Jakarta on July 16.

However, KPI has not been passed into a decree. “KPI is still seeking ideas in revising the Broadcasting and Standard Program Guidelines (P3SP) ,” Hidayat said. “We’re still working on it. It hasn’t been decided yet”.

As non-factual programs, Hidayat continued, infotainment shows will fall into the entertainment category, in which all the programs must go through censorship. “KPI won’t be doing the censorship. It’s the duty of the Film Censorship Body”.

But, not all non-factual programs are subjected to censorship. Some of them, like quiz shows, are not censured.

Regardless, both factual and non-factual programs must adhere to the P3SP. vivanews
